Article on Bulgarian clothing and textile published in Business Eastern Europe Newsletter, 21.02.05

The positive development of the Bulgarian textile and clothing industry is presented in the article featuring figures from the export, employment and investments.

The China quota drop off is named as one of the main threats for the further prosperity of the clothing business while the basic advantages are the skills of the local textile firms to adapt to new styles for small orders in quick deliveries terms.

According to Mr. Rob Withford, the author of the article, EU accession of Bulgaria appears to be a challenge for the Bulgarian manufacturers because it will push up the wages and thus make the country less competitive, but meanwhile it will create a stronger domestic market.
The question is whether the companies will manage to switch from CMT to performing own brands and make a name on the market (establish/impose).
